The History of Computing is an interesting and discovery-filled area that has significantly influenced the modern world. Starting from the invention of the first mechanical calculating machine by the mathematician Charles Babbage in the 19th century, to the modern and advanced computers of today, computing has evolved in an impressive manner.
The first mechanical calculating machine was invented by Babbage, and was called the Difference Engine. This machine was capable of calculating polynomials using finite differences arithmetic. This machine was followed by other mechanical machines, such as Babbage’s Analytical Engine mechanical computer, which was considered the first modern computer.
In the beginning of the 20th century, electronic computers began to appear. The first electronic computer was the ENIAC computer, developed by the University of Pennsylvania in 1945. The ENIAC was the first computer to use electronic valves, allowing it to process calculations faster than Babbage’s machine.
Electronic computers developed quickly in the following years. Large-scale computers were replaced by smaller-sized computers. These personal computers, or PCs, became popular starting in the 70s. These computers were cheaper than the previous computers, allowing users to have access to home computing.
The advancement of computing technology continued in the late 20th century. Computers were equipped with faster processors, larger memories, and larger hard drives. Additionally, graphical computing became common, allowing users to interact with computers in a more intuitive way.
Currently, computing has evolved even more quickly, with the development of high-performance processors, flash memories, and other technologies. These technologies are allowing computers to perform more complex tasks than ever before, enabling the development of new applications and services in all fields.

1st Generation (1951-1958): Computers based on valve devices.
2nd Generation (1959-1964): Computers based on transistors.
3rd Generation (1965-1971): Computers based on integrated circuits.
4th Generation (1971-1980): Computers based on LSI (Large Scale Integration) circuits.
5th Generation (1981-1990): Computers based on VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) circuits.
6th Generation (1990-Present): Computers based on ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration) circuits.
